Ingredients

  • 1 lb 450 g lean ground beef
  • 8 small corn or flour tortillas
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • ½ small onion finely diced
  • 2 garlic cloves minced
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • ½ teaspoon paprika
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ cup tomato sauce
  • ¼ cup water
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce
  • 1 medium tomato diced
  • ¼ cup diced red onion
  • 1 avocado sliced
  • Fresh cilantro for garnish
  • Lactose-free shredded cheese or dairy-free cheese alternative optional
  • Lime wedges for serving

Equipment

  • 1 Large skillet
  • 1 Cutting board
  • 1 Measuring spoons
  • 1 Small skillet for warming tortillas

Method

  1. Cook the Ground Beef
  2. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  3. Add the diced onion and cook for 2–3 minutes until softened. Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon, until browned and cooked through.
  4. Drain excess fat if necessary.
  5. Season the Beef
  6. Add the minced garlic, chili powder, cumin, paprika, salt, and black pepper.
  7. Stir well and cook for about 1 minute to allow the spices to become fragrant.
  8. Add the Taco Sauce
  9. Pour in the tomato sauce and water.
  10. Stir everything together and simmer for 4–5 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken and coat the beef.
  11. Warm the Tortillas
  12. Warm the tortillas in a dry skillet for about 20–30 seconds per side.
  13. Keep them covered with a clean kitchen towel so they remain soft while you prepare the tacos.
  14. Assemble the Tacos
  15. Fill each tortilla with seasoned ground beef.
  16. Top with shredded lettuce, diced tomato, red onion, avocado, fresh cilantro, and lactose-free cheese or a dairy-free cheese alternative if desired.
